Green News: Pepsi opens LEED certified “Green” Plant in China

An interesting piece made it’s way to Reuters today.

Apparently Pepsi has opened a new Green facility in Chongqing, a western China city. The plant meets the U.S. LEED standards in energy use and water-savings.

Pepsi plans on investing $1 billion in China over the next 5 years and opening 5 more plants. The company believes that investing in China and India are it’s best bets for sales growth as spending habits in the US change.

Do we commend Pepsi for building a Green Plant? Or do we condemn them not spending the $1 billion at home in the US? Or how about retrofitting the U.S. Plants to make them LEED certified?

Coca-Cola is also in on the action as Pepsi is following in their footsteps expanding into China.
